The Nothing Video
After meeting with my brother, Nate, several weeks ago about the theme for this year’s winter camp, I stayed back at Cutter’s Point to do some writing. Big surprise, right? They know my drink by heart there, and even if someone else happens to go down to the shop and get it for me, it is all too clear who it’s for. Then again, I don’t know of anyone else who drinks a double-tall vanilla rice milk latte!
In any case, as I was sipping on that excuse for a real milk latte, I started reflecting on the theme for camp: “The Nothing.” Sort of a cross between the film The Neverending Story and Evanescence’s song, “Bring Me To Life,” and how they relate so well to the subtle, creeping sin that erodes away at the human soul. Add a little twist of Wesleyan omissional and commissional sin, and you’ve got a solid theme! As I wrote, distracted by thoughts of “The Nothing,” a poem started coming to me, so I switched gears, opened a Word doc, and wrote the beginnings of what eventually became this video.
