1together:               Thoughts on church, life, and emerging culture…

Walking Together as One

After much prodding from friends and family, I’ve finally started a blog. While they’ll now be a little more free from my unending stream of thoughts and ideas, I am looking orward to hopefully bringing some others into the conversation.

Now that I am no longer working with ICN, I have had some time to pick up some writing projects again. It’s been nice to jump back into it, actually. Writing, something for which I cared little growing up, has proven to be one of the best ways for me to process life and the world around me.

These days I’m working on a book about the Church and modern culture. It’s sort of my neo-fundamentalist take on changing culture and how to adapt our methods to regain relevence without losing ourselves in the process. And frankly, too many have set themselves up for failure in that regard. But, I’ll get into that more later.

Other than that, I’ll also he working on random articles for magazine submissions and a fiction novel about a time traveling twelve-year-old, just to break things up.

I’m hoping to use this blog as a way to help hammer out and develop ideas for things I’m working on, to share observations life, funny stories (being me tends to attract strange things), explore my unfounded fear of wolves, etc. Basically, this, as everything else in life, will eventually find its way.

So why the funky name? “Incedite Una” is Latin for “walking together as one.” This mantra has become the anchor point of my own life and is at the core of my heart for the Church and her future place in the world.

The reason unity is so difficult to maintain, whether in family, Church, or even areas of our own potential cognitive dissonance, is because being known, truly known down to the core, can be a scary thing. It requires openness, transparency, and brutal honesty, traits that, at least for me, do not come naturally. But, counter-cultural as we should be, there is no greater weapon in the believer’s toolbox. Being known is a powerful thing.

Please feel free to comment on anything in this blog as it comes up. Even if you disagree with things I put out there, I look forward to conversation on all of this with friends and strangers, religious, spiritual, and nonbeliever alike.

One Response to “Walking Together as One”

  • Glad you have a blog, yo. I enjoy thought provoking / insightful blogs, as does my husband, so we’re looking forward to what you write about. Jason, by the way, has decided you must be awesome ever since you wrote the words “FO’ NASTY” on my FB wall. Nicely done.

Question- upon telling Jennie that we are members at Mars Hill (Ballard) she mentioned that you had gone there for awhile, so we’re curious: 1- What is your honest opinion? Don’t worry- if you hated it we won’t take it personally- we’ll just think you’re wrong! ;) 2 – How does it fit into your greater framework of how the Church should vs. does look in modern culture?

Thanks, dude, and we look forward to your thoughts!
